The Dutch cybersecurity sector is growing rapidly and is driving innovative cybersecurity solutions for the global security cluster. Over the past few years, The Hague has become one of the major cybersecurity hotspots in the Netherlands and the world. The Hague now hosts more than 400 cybersecurity companies, focusing on a range of issues including protecting the digital world from cyber attacks. Lanner Europe B.V is one of the businesses that were ready to explore the opportunities the Dutch cybersecurity ecosystem has to offer and decided to join HSD Campus in 2021. To find out more about their current developments and what has changed for them since joining HSD, we met with their General Manager, Geoffrey Egger.
Lanner was first founded in Taiwan in 1986 and over the last three decades developed into the world-leading hardware provider in design, engineering, and manufacturing services for some of the largest network security companies in the world. With offices in China, Canada, and the United States of America, expanding their business to Europe and more specifically into the Dutch cybersecurity space seemed the next obvious step. Some of the biggest incentives to open an office in The Hague were the thriving business environment and the possibility to continue to use English as their primary business language. Compared to other major cybersecurity markets, such as Germany, France, and Portugal, Geoffrey saw more potential in reaching sustainable growth, attracting new talents with high expertise, and setting up the administrative part of the business promptly, within the Netherlands.
Joining HSD Campus and consequently entering The Hague’s cybersecurity ecosystem has opened up many opportunities for Lanner. Next to an ever growing network of cybersecurity professionals and access to impactful cybersecurity events, their team sparked many social collaborations in and around HSD Campus. They have also found successful business collaborations and Geoffrey mentioned that “our pipeline of business is looking very healthy. We have all sorts of deals with OEMs and ODMs, that are going to turn a piece of hardware into an appliance, which they will then deliver under their brand.” One thing Lanner has not yet come across are Dutch-based companies that are deploying hardware as part of their software or network security solutions, which is why they are seeking more events surrounding critical infrastructure security, cybersecurity in oil and gas, or other seemingly unconventional industries for the utilisation of cybersecurity hardware.
Some of the recent industry developments, such as an increased demand from service providers and telecommunication companies for cybersecurity solutions to facilitate the increased network traffic, have led Lanner to further develop their innovative products and ensure a longer shelf life. This way, their team wants to encourage their clients to keep their product longer, reduce their waste, and contribute to a more environmentally friendly cybersecurity industry. Having a knowledge-based office situated at HSD Campus, Lanner hopes to connect their customer needs and their manufacturing processes, and continue growing their business.
To reach these goals, Lanner is currently looking to employ passionate and experienced individuals with knowledge in sales, business development, and sales engineering, to double their team of currently five people throughout the next year.
